We administer vaccinations to our herd of goats to safeguard against common diseases that can negatively affect health, productivity and growth.
All of our pregnant does receive boosters of their vaccines prior to kidding to promote passive transfer of antibodies to their kids through the colostrum. In addition to vaccines, we also administer BoSe to supplement Selenium prior to kidding, as we reside in a selenium deficient area of the country and have seen stronger kids as a result.
Some breeders recommend vaccinating kids at very young ages (less than 8 weeks of age), but from our research, we feel these early vaccinations are not protective, and may actually be counterproductive, as some of the maternal antibodies received from the dam may be lost due to this practice.

Many veterinarians recommend vaccinating goats for rabies, as it is a disease that is always fatal and can be spread to people.
Available vaccines for goats include those protective against other strains of clostridial diseases, such as blackleg, as well as caseous lymphadentitis, mastitis and other diseases.
As with any medical procedure, we recommend consulting with your veterinarian to determine which vaccinations are needed for your herd, and on what schedule.
